I am a healthy 30-year-old female. I am active. I am not a fad or yo-yo dieter. In the last two very stressful years, I have put on 20-25 pounds. I am 5'5". I am (was) a BIG fan of simply cutting back and exercising to lose weight. For whatever reason, the old way doesn’t seem to work anymore! I used to be able to drop 5 or 7 pounds in a few weeks and feel slim again. Now 5 and 7 has turned into approximately 25 pounds overweight. And cutting back and exercising just doesn’t seem to be doing it for me. I am "stalled". I decided to go on my first diet. Atkins has been all over the newspapers lately in terms of great SUCCESSes! Three days ago I began the induction phase of Atkins. My question/problem is this: I feel like I am eating too much meat. Maybe even gorging myself. An example (1) days’ intake include: 2 fried eggs, fried bacon (6 strips), cheeses (4-8 ozs daily) not to mention roast beef or another side meat, mayo, and the 2 cups of veggies that I am allowed. AND, I have had 2 carb-o-lite chocolate bars each day also (as "snacks"). I record everything in my journal. I count the carbs and I am staying in less than 20 a day. But honestly the fat grams must be in the hundreds and the calories in the several thousand-or at least 2 or 3 thousand. I feel very full, very heavy, very fatigued and very FAT. I have gone cold turkey on both alcohol and caffeine. I am following the rules, honestly! But I guess the "cravings" I have are for food, so I eat & eat & eat (meat and cheeses and carb-o-lite bars)! Is this a sure way of moving in the wrong direction? I read another person's entry and she said she was having a banana for breakfast, a piece of fish for lunch and coffee for dinner...that doesn’t sound right either! I have been all over the Atkins site and it doesn’t really say anything about "over eating" of "non carb" foods. Your advice or opinion will be very much appreciated! Thank you! Stephie

YES, YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK ABOUT OVEREATING...FIRST OF ALL THE INDUCTION PART OF THE DIET YOU HAVE OK (ALL THE PROTEIN) (CHECK THE CHEESE LIMIT-I THINK 6 OZ ARE TOO MUCH FOR THIS PHASE) THE FACT THAT YOU STOPPED ALL ALCOHOL AND CAFFEINE INTAKE, PLUS STARTED INDUCTION SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL HORRIBLE...INDUCTION ALONE LEFT ME EXHAUSTED FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS...AND I HAVE BEEN ALCOHOL FREE FOR 18 YEARS AND CAFFEINE FREE ON AND OFF (MOSTLY OFF) FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS... YOUR HEAD NEEDS TO HANG IN THERE AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION...THERE ARE OTHER THINGS AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS TO GET THIN, AND FEEL WELL...SUPPORT GROUPS AND STUFF! GOOD LUCK! CINDY

stephie...you may want to scale down a bit on the bacon (to 2-3 strips), and definitely down on the cheese (3-4 oz. is what the book says). the latest version of the book does address overeating acceptable foods, and states that it is very important to eat until you are satisfied, not until you are stuffed. i have found that the atkins advantage bars are great snacks and really hold me off until it's time to eat again and my appetite has diminished. a sample of what i eat daily during induction is:
breakfast--2 eggs, scrambled; 2 oz. breakfast sausage crumbled, and 1 oz. shredded cheese
lunch--1 cup salad with 2 Tbsp. acceptable dressing, 4-6 rollups of either roast beef or turkey with about 2 oz cheese and yellow mustard OR one 6 oz. can of tuna with 1 Tbsp. acceptable mayo and chopped onions and one small plum tomato, chopped
snack--1 chocolate decadence atkins advantage bar
dinner--6-8 oz chicken, beef, pork; 1 c. cooked veggies (yellow and zucchini squash sauteed in butter), and a small green salad with acceptable dressing

besides that...i drink probably 2 gallons of water daily (i live in south florida though, so it's HOT!!!), 2-3 cans of la croix sparkling water with lemon flavoring, and the occasional can of diet rite. and it's working well....

are you taking supplements??

Steph, I would go by the result on your ketostix and your scale. Your posting made me laugh out loud because I am eating meat like a fiend too...and enjoying it! Have you eaten an entire roasted chicken for lunch yet? Anyway, I also choose to eat lo carb bread, 2 slices per day, and make a great sandwich rather than eating salad. The cookies and creme advantage bar was so horrible tasting that I spit it out in my car. The Endulge bars are tasty.

Aletha..........I've heard that aspartame can stall your weight loss (in some people). I'd say, just don't overdo the diet pop and should be ok. If you've noticed you're not losing much, cut it out for a couple of weeks and see if you don't lose more weight.

Hi, if you are a strict carnivore as I am, you will not gain any weight, nor have any cravings as long as you keep the carbage out. the minute you add any carbage to your mouth, you will begin having cravings.. so your question was "can you eat too much meat?" if you're eating carbage, yes.
if you are eating just meat, you will slim down, lose all your illnesses, allergies, lethargy, cravings, binging, and anything else that western civilization has...
